Cabo Pulmo Marine Park

1n 1995 President Zidillo declared the eight miles of land, water, arroyos and mountains that surround the main reefs in the Village of Cabo Pulmo as a National Park. This designation has nurtured study and awareness of all aspects of the unique environment found here.
This jewel of Mexican parks includes the largest living coral reefs in Western North America.Pappagallo is two miles into the parque from the north and easy to get to from the Los Cabos Airport (SJD) which also serves San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
GETTING HERE:
Driving north from the airport - it usually less than 90 minutes by car. Reserve a rental car in advance. It is not unusual for them not to request payment in advance and if you are feisty and have not paid for the car yet you can shop for a better deal among the row of car agencies there while you wait for your luggage. Vans and/or taxi's are available. Best not to drive at night unless you are familiar with the terrain. The Transpeninsular highway and all roads going north have irregularities and maintained shoulders don't exist.
5 miles past the Santiago left turn sign you will see on your right a Cabo Pulmo sign and take that right immediately before going over a long high bridge...only 20 more miles.
You make the right at the Y coming into La Ribera after 6 miles.
Here is your last pemex on the left and last super mercado, "Rey 1" a couple of block further on your right.
Through La Ribera and to the south 11 miles are paved while the last three miles are dirt that can be washboard. You will pass Mexican Rancheros on both sides of the road with speedbumps or "topos" in the roadway. After 100 yards you will see the "Pappagallo, Cabo Pulmo Eco Palapa" sign and turn left just before it.
Food & provisions should be bought in San Jose but for basic food you can get by in La Ribera. Take the toll road (which begins at the airport and goes only south) to the mega mall just 1/2 mile beyond the toll both and do the roundabout 1/2 way. There is underground parking. you can save 15 to 45 minutes by returning north on the toll road to the airport and then continuing north on the transpeninsular, Mex.1 A couple of basic Mercados are in La Ribera (14 miles away from Pappagallo) which is the closest food store.
